A Southern Grace: random is a good word for me

random is a good word for me

Yum

I got pelted with a couple of tags recently. Robin Sue of Big Red Kitchen and the Blonde Duck of A Duck in Her Pond both hit me with the "Six Random Things About Me" meme.

So, here goes...

Uno--My eyelids flutter continuously when I close my eyes. It's like permanent REM.

Dos--When watching movies, I'm more likely to cry about the death of an animal than that of a person.

Tres--In my 25 years of existence, I've successfully played the recorder, saxophone, piano, dulcimer, and guitar. Oh, and the jug.

Quatro--I avoid confrontation and rejection at all costs. I'm a delicate (and yellow-bellied) individual.

Cinco--Perhaps my biggest pet peeve (of which I have many) is noisy, sloppy gum-chewing and eating. I do not want to hear the saliva sloshing around your mouth. I do not want to see things coming out of your lips. Keep your trap closed, dang it.

Seis--I can tune into any Seinfeld episode, no matter how many times I've seen it, and thoroughly enjoy it. What a show.

And now you know--I'm an odd peacock.

I hereby tag Lisa of My Own Sweet Thyme, Katie from Other People's Food, Albany Jane of Albany Eats, and Ann of Velvet Lava. Let's hear some factoids, ladies!

On a completely unrelated note, my tomatoes are thriving--bring on that red! Plus, after not one but two false starts, my zucchini plants are blossoming once again:

Third time's a charm, right?

I've been wanting to grow tomatoes and peppers here for awhile. But I have a black thumb and we live on basically rock and clay. The only thing that thrives here is mesquite and cactus.

A lot of people in Alaska are obsessed w/ hunting and fishing. My dad works for a company up there and travels there at least once a month. He said because the winters are so long, people have kinda a binge attitude. Once May hits for their "summer," they're outside from early morning until late at night b/c it's light almost all day hunting, fishing, kayaking, etc. If you talk to a local they've all got an obsession. We met with a family friend and all they could talk about was fishing. Seriously. ALL they could talk about.

Personally, I prefer to sing to the otters.

Anytime you need any good spices that you can't find in NY let me know, I'll send them up. I'm in San Antonio so it's Mexican food central down here.

AMEN TO THE GUM-CHEWING PEEVE!!! My most violent pet peeve is "nucular," but gum-chewing is a close 2nd. I also really hate gum cracking. I've even changed cars on the subway because if I didn't, someone was going to die. [not really, of course...but it felt that way to me.]

The dulcimer and jug? I'm not why this cracked me up. I'll be waiting for my You tube video of your jug playing..mkay?

Woohoo your tomatoes look great! And I am completely in agreement on: "Seis--I can tune into any Seinfeld episode, no matter how many times I've seen it, and thoroughly enjoy it. What a show." It's scary how many times I can watch it and laugh all over again.

Hi Grace, I am with you on the whole 'animal is hurt' worry when watching a film. It makes it really hard to concentrate on what else is going on!

Yippee for ripening tomatoes. Mine are looking pretty good too. I can't wait for them to start coming in well.

I am so down with the mouth-noise loathing. It's almost as though I have a super-all-hearing ear for it, too, which doesn't help.

Thanks for the tag - I'll try to come up with interesting goodies! :)

Congratulations on your juicy friends! I am looking forward to growing tomatoes this Summer (yep, still Winter in the Southern hemisphere, boo hoo).

chewing or any mouth noise is quite possibly one of my biggest pet peeves, even my dog knows that if he's going to engage in licking of any kind, it better be done outa my presence! LOL
We're all odd birds I suspect, you were just brave enough to admit it! ;) Cheers, loved the post.

I always cry when an Animal dies. Most of the time If I know ahead of time that one is going to die I don't even want to watch the movie.

They say that if you can play the jug, you can play just about anything! I can do a mean tune on the cheese grater and am learning how to play the piping bag!!
Good to see the tomatoes coming on.

Woo - I'll get right on it.

And the jug? Oh, I'm bringing you to the next hoe down.

Oh your tomatoes look awesome! But you've got some dying leaves there, like we do. We had to pull plants out because they kept dying too much. Do you know why they get some of those dead leaves? please help!

Great answers to the tag, it's nice to know you more!

Grace,
Amen to the sloppy eating grossness. I totally agree with that. And yes, how can anyone not enjoy a good ole' Seinfeld episode? :)

I'm with you on the sloppy eating, I hate that! Great lookin' veggies there, I can't wait to see those ripe, red tomatoes!

Jeff said...

Yeah on the tomatoes!!! They look beautiful. Can't wait to see what you throw together with them.

Zucchini I have always had problems with. I think my grandpa use to hand pollnate them but well I find it is easier for me to buy them at the farmer's market.

Thanks for sharing! And I am so jealous of your garden.

I am so with you on your pet peeve also. I HATE gross mouth noises. Even my own, like when I eat cereal.

That's cool about the instruments. I successfully played 6 instruments in my life too. We have two in common, recorder and piano. My others were bassoon, flute, oboe and clarinet.
