George: "Double-dipped"? What are you talking about?
Timmy: You dipped the chip. You took a bite. And you dipped again.
George: So...?
Timmy: That's like putting your whole mouth right in the dip! From now on, when you take a chip, just take one dip and end it!
George: Well, I'm sorry, Timmy, but I don't dip that way.
(Best. Picture. Ever.)
Much like George Costanza, I enjoy a good dip. If we're at a party and you can't find me, chances are I'm hovering around the dip.
So what defines a good dip? To me, the most important thing (aside from taste) is that it be viscous enough to stay on the dipping utensil. Other than that, I'm not too picky. It can be hot or cold, smooth or chunky, sweet or savory.
(must...not...eat...by...spoonful)
This dip is one of my all-time favorites. It's like a smooth salsa, but with black beans thrown in the mix. I'm of the opinion that black beans can only enhance a dish. Even brownies. But I digress. This dip is so good, I'm offering it to Susan of Sticky, Gooey, Creamy, Chewy for her Blogiversary Bash. I'll try not to eat it all before the party.
Black Bean Dip
1 28-oz can whole tomatoes, drained
2 cups black beans, fully cooked
1 7-oz can green chiles, diced
2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
1/4 cup cilantro
Salt, sugar, cumin, chipotle chile powder, and pepper to taste
Puree the tomatoes and 1 cup of the beans until your desired consistency is reached. Stir in the remaining black beans and other ingredients and season to taste.

That's one of my favorite Sienfelds! Love the picture. I put black beans in the Brussels Sprouts category, not so sure I really like them, but your dip looks quite dip-able.
If you start off any recipe with a semi nude George Costanza photo (or a Seinfeld reference but semi nude pics are preferred) I'm in lol.
The dip looks delightfully easy-and I bet George would like it too ;)
I love this recipe, I use one very similar, but I put it over Saffron rice, and then add to my enjoyment with a dollop of sour cream and some green onion...I can then grab the largest spoon in my kitchen, because now it's a meal--the guilt of eating dip with a spoon can do terrible things to a girl! I immediately added you to my Blog Roll as soon as I saw this recipe, I want to see more! Loving that picture of George at 7-something in the morning too!!
I miss Seinfeld, and of course Costanza is particularly missed. Thanks for the good laugh this morning. I love a good black bean dip, just dipping in general makes me happy, especially if I don't have to share and can double dip away.
That photo is hilarious!
I'm a double dipper too... And I'd certainly be back for more of this delicious-looking example.
This made me laugh! I love dips, too. You can eat a bunch and no one knows!
lol@the chip dip dialogue...
I'm fully with you about dips. The liquidy stuff with a side of chips simply won't do. If I need a straw, I'm not interested. This is a very seductive looking dip though. I love it!
I loved that episode!
We will be at the dip table together! Great minds think alike today!
You faked me out - I thought the dip was chocolate! Black bean is a close second to chocolate.
Another black bean lover here, this dip looks diplicious!
Seinfeld reruns are always watched here :)
all those flavors sound just perfect together!
I like it...the consistency sounds right with just the right amount of chunky tomatoes in there.
Psst....I double dip!
that dip sounds really yummy! and I'm with the others..the pic cracks me up!
I double dip at home with the husband...but not at public party stuff!
That picture is hilarious! Thanks for the laugh. I just love Seinfeld! I am a fan of dips too!!
Seinfield and black bean dip...could it get any better? :)
That photo made me laugh so hard! Thanks for it and the great looking recipe!
"You dip the way *you* want to dip, and I dip the way I dip."
And, I actually have that TIMELESS ART OF SEDUCTION T-shirt!!!! =D
I used to wear it while preparing food and then I saw that the T-shirt was so distracting in the resulting food pictures, haha.
Hilarious! One of my favorite foods and episodes.
Ohhh..I forgot about that Photo of George!! Funny stuff!
Love the dip
OH MAN. I love black beans! Just over the last couple of months I've gone crazy for them.
And I love Seinfield! I remember this episode well.
Oooh...that's a tough one!
Which is more appetizing: the picture or the dip, the picture or the dip?
Great dip! I'm a huge fan of dips myself. Something about the constant back and forth of chip to dip to mouth that's somewhat comforting I think!
I have to say double dipping makes me crazy!!! Alton Brown did an episode on this. It is true that lots of germs are spread this way!
My favorite thing about your blog is how much you make me laugh (and all the delicious food too!) First, I am a confessed double-dipper. In my defense, I do try to turn my chips to the non-bitten side before dipping again.
And I love all dips, just like you. Sometimes when my husband is out of town I just eat pita and some sort of dip for dinner. Shh. . . don't tell.
Great picture of George - I love that episode.
The dip looks delicious. A nice combination of flavors. Can't wait to make it.
I must be weird. I put out custard dishes so everyone can snag a bit of dip and double dip to his or her heart's content! My kids think this is normal. Their future spouses may be calling me to pay the shrink bills.
OMG I just left a post over with Cathy at Noble Pig about double dipping!!!! How funny is that? No double dipping!!
Girl you rock!
Yum! I love black beans, actually all beans...and making a dip starchier sounds perfect to me.
Big, big chips any will do, scooping & savoring this dip w/all that's just perfect... love it!! and... no double dipping ;-)
well this is one of those dips I'd have to eat till it was gone! Your right black beans enhance everything!!
I bought some black beans recently, and have been wondering what to do with them. A dip might just be the ticket :)
I love black beans too. I have a recipe in my "docket" to make black bean brownies.
That dip looks awesome. I am all about dips. Love em' Every party I make a new dip. My friends love the variety. Although the spinach and artichoke dip could be the star at every party oh and the bread bowl, chipped beef adn mayo thingy. Okay I will stop. See how excited I get over dip. YIKES.
I'm all about the black beans myself. Yum. My mom actually grew them this summer (!) and I just made a black bean soup with them. I don't know about you, but home grown black beans were just way out there to me. Now I am clamoring for her to grow more. :)
Heee! George! I miss him. And that dip looks incredible.
Hehehe! I remember the Double Dipper.
This looks great, Grace! Thanks so much for sending it over! I'm breaking out the Tostitos.
I just commented on how I love a good dip in my blog post today!! This one looks amazing - and I love the Seinfield pic!
Gotta love George.
I love a good dip, especially when it's as easy as yours.
When I was first scrolling down, I thought it was a chocolate dip. Imagine my surprise when I saw "black bean dip!"
yumyumyum that dip looks so delicious! i made a salsa dip the other day but i guess i put in way too much jalapeno then i should have bc it was soooo tongue-burningly hot!
First place you'll see me also at the party is around the dips. I can eat all night. It's not good for the waist. This is a nice dip. New to me. Thanks for sharing.
He is SO sexy, I need a shower pronto. And then this dip. And then probably some bean-o, but you probably didn't want to know that part...
Oh, thank you for this chuckle today! I miss that show. I am probably labeled as "weird", too, because I put a spoon in the dip bowl along with small plates to discourage double-dipping. Not sure if it helps much, lol!
No matter how many times I watch Seinfeld reruns, they are always hilarious each time! Wow, your dip looks rich and delicious...my kind of dip.
Since I'm pretty dippy myself, I'm salivating over this one. Especially the beans...And since my dipping "instrument" is a shovel, I'll have no trouble scooping up as much as I need!
The dip is the best part! So (hanging head in shame) yes, I have been known to double dip. But I don't pose for photos like this!
mmmm i've never had anything like that i love a good dip too! you should try this - i call it a salsa but you could call it a dip too - http://www.goodeatsblog.com/2008/01/tex-mex-salsa-with-homemade-tortilla.html
That double dipping episode was hysterical...right up there on the top 5 Seinfeld episodes.
Your dip is entirely interesting - combinations I would never have thought of but would love to try.
Oh my, that picture and the word appetizing don't exactly go together :)
But the dip does look quite appetizing!
I laughing too hard to type! This photo is hilarious! When I calm down, I'll have to give your dip a try. Hubbyman loves black beans, as does my youngest, so this would be a hit in our house.
I actually found that picture on the street and had to pick it up and have it in my apartment. George was a true foodie, he was torn between sex and food....
LOL! I think that episode of Seinfeld is what alerted me to the practice of double-dipping!! Brilliant. Your black bean dip looks superb too - have bookmarked it for future reference :)
Oh, my gosh! The deadline is today! I so wanted to participate. Well, your dip sure looks delicious, I love dips and dippable things. :)
Grace, your dip looks delicious, and it's so easy to make! I'll try it for sure.
I love naked George Costanza as well :)
If you're seeking me out at Susans bash you will find me by the dip...not double dipping..at least in public:D
I'll be hovering around the dips too, and this one is all mine!
How did I miss this one too?! The dip looks ALMOST as good as George workin' it on the chaise. Hilarious. I bet I've seen that episode 10 times! Love it.
Seriously, I love beans, I love dips, I love dips with beans. This looks great.
I'm a HUGE Seinfeld fan... even all these years later. Thanks for posting that picture. It's one of my favs. :) I also love the cinnamon quote. :)
