May the 4th be with you? Yeah, that's clever and I like Star Wars as much as the next geek, but even so, I wish every day was Cinco de Mayo.
As names go, bete noire is simultaneously fitting and wildly inappropriate. It literally translates to ‘black beast’ but can be applied to anything to be detested or avoided. Fact: You can try to avoid this decadent treat, but if you like chocolate, it just ain’t gonna happen.

I don't think I'll ever actually stop trying to improve every recipe I attempt, even if it already yields one of the most amazing and delicious creations I've ever consumed. It's just my nature to wonder if there's any way I can make it better.
I know everyone is supposed to go crazy for s'mores, but somewhere along the way, I lost enthusiasm for them. I think the magic of a campfire is really important to get the whole effect, and I haven't actually been in the presence of one of those for many years.
There's a great holiday coming up this month, but that's not the only reason April is special. It's also the month I was born.
Whose bright idea was it to put these two too-tart ingredients together in the first place? And who's responsible for propagating it? Because now it's everywhere and in everything.
