Mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, fried potatoes, potato salad, sweet potatoes ... I'm coming over all Bubba Gump at the mere sight of your tater salad.

I only make mashed potatoes when someone else is here to peel them. Peeling 5 pounds for one meal is not my idea of fun.

great post! I think I could live off a good pile of mashed taters. btw...they just don't turn out the same if you use anything other than an old fashioned tater masher.

I love love love mashed potatoes. I have been eating them at the dining hall at work, and I can totally tell they are from a box, so maybe I will ask my husband to make his for me this week...he doesn't skimp on the butter or deliciousness.

What a lovely story! It's so cute you've got a nickname from your grandpa! My families have never been big on nicknames.

And OMG, mashed potatoes = LOVE. They are in my top 10 of favorite carbs.

When I was little, I hated mashed potatoes. I lied with my nana, who simply mashed up the potatoes, and the texture made me feel sick.

As a grown up, having made them properly, They are one of my very favourite thing. Creamy mash with a little cheddar and mustard through it is one of my comfort foods!

Your photo almost made me drool!

I love the Ron White reference! And who doesn't love potatos? Drooling now!

Mmmm, nummers!! Those look splendid and I enjoyed your look back in time. Sounds so wholesome!

My grandma was a farm wife too and she cooked three hot meals each and every day.

Nothing can replace the deliciousness of mashed potatoes; I mean, where would we put the gravy? Growing up on a ranch, mashed potatoes were a staple in our family. They still evoke oohhs and ahhhhs from my brood!

Nice guest post Grace! I do love mashed potatoes. Mine are never as good these days as I remember them being back home. There is something especially nourishing about coming together as a family around the table. There's something special about recapturing those memories as we share meals and recipes too.

Mmmm... off home now to make mashed potatoes and sausages with red wine gravy! The best mashed potatoes I ever had were at Joel Robuchon's restaurant here in London - he apparently makes them with approximately half potatoes and half butter!!
