Wait, can that adjective be applied to humans, or just tarts and decor?
Well, let's see. Mr. Webster says that rustic means:
1. of, pertaining to, or living in the country, as distinguished from towns or cities; rural. (born and bred)
2. simple, artless, or unsophisticated. (yep, it's true)
3. uncouth, rude, or boorish. (meh--only on a bad day)
Now that that's settled, we can move on to the rustic blueberry tart I recently made. I was such a fan of the pastry from my blueberry hand-pies that I decided to use it again. I made the filling the same way too, and just dumped it onto the rolled-out dough, folded in the berries and their juice, and popped it into the oven.
Frankly, I can't say enough good things about this dough. It's easy to make and handle, and the resulting crust is flaky and buttery and completely satisfying.
No, there's nothing wrong with being rustic. Not at all.

Oh yeah, rustic goodness! I want one now!!
Rustic seems more authentic to me. I will have to give that dough another looksie!
Yeah I would say nothing wrong with that at all!
That looks crazy delicious. I've used vanilla or buttermilk in a pie dough, so I'll have to give this recipe a try.
Ahhhh! Flaky, Flaky, Flaky!
Darlin', these look absolutely devine. I think we must be sisters. Sisters in Blueberry.
Rustic sure does look good to me! My husband would snarf this down in a minute, rather make that seconds. This looks wonderful and hearing about blueberries makes me want spring and summer to arrive NOW! I think I'm more of a pie girl than cake girl, and this would make ver a happy girl right about now. YUM!
I love rustic desserts! Fabulous!!
I. I love rustic-ness
2. I love hand pies - they look like super yummy flaky turnovers. I could go for one right now.

My hubby would be so happy if I made this for him. I always think the rustic route is so much easier.

Love the rustic, there's less pressure.
Looks SO delicious!! Rustic, but beautiful!
Mmm, you know the mention of blueberries just makes my mouth water.
Rustic means no matter what it turns out perfect so I'll take rustic any day and I'll take one of these right now!
Must wipe drool off my keyboard. Can't wait to make some little hand pies.
Looks delicious, and what a gorgeous color! I cant wait to try the crust..
In this case Rustic = Drop Dead Delicious. Wow!
If that's rustic, count me in! It looks fantastic and I think you are a pro at the pastry-side of things.
When are you bringing some? Would vanilla ice cream suit you to go with them? Anything blueberry is great in my book!
Say it loud and proud-I am rustic and that is okay!
Those look great. I think I should try that for the Dude-he loves the blueberry pie!
thats a lovely sounding treat, although I swear I see seeds in the first picture... I like rustic alot!
Okay, you have almost convinced me to try this dough. Just one more gorgeous post from you and I should be ready!
If rustic means a gorgeous buttery flakey pastry and a deliciously luscious blueberry filling, I'm totally in for that!
Oh yeah rustic is good. Boorish? Nope, sorry, not you at all my dear.
This looks so good Grace! It makes me want a warm piece right now with a scoop of vanilla bean ice-cream!
I'm still loving the hand pies Grace:D
This is so pretty, I bet it tastes amazing.
Is there any left? I'll be over tomorrow to share in the rustic-ness.
Mmmm, those look sooooooo good.
That dough is so flakey Grace, a lot like me. No wonder I like it!
I like rustic food much more than sophisticated wares! That pastry looks delicious!

You're right, that crust looks incredible. I envy the flakiness, not sure if I'll ever be able to get that with gf pastry dough :P.
Rustic rules!! Especially in this post!!
I loved it when you posted the hand pies and now I love it even more. My mammalooski used to make something like this - different dough but loaded with blueberries and we all went crazy over them. Now I'm double crazy. (is that even possible)
Delicious, Grace! The crust is so flaky!
i think those definitions give rustic a bad name! this pie sounds perfectly delicious and wonderful!
I would imagine that people can't get enough of these gorgeous creations ... mouth-watering. Nicely done!
That pastry does look nice and light and flaky and so good!
Rustic is artistic and eye catching...just like your tart.
it must taste so good... perfect vwith a scoop of vanilla ice cream... :)
Pretty much all of my pies are rustic.
Rustic is a good thing, and you've sold me on this dough. I'm going to try it soon!
Haha, I LOVE it. That pie looks amazing. I don't think you can beat a blueberry pie.
The crust really does look wonderful!! I don't usually stray from my old standby recipe, but I think this is something I should try.
That's my kind of pie! Easy, but awesomely delicious.
There is an award for you on my blog. :)
I would like a bite OR TWO of that luscious little blueberry, rustic tart.
As always, I'm all about the blueberry. Thank you for that drooling tart.
I still like showing off my blueberry smile...where's yours?
These pics are borderline soft porn.
Rustic? well since I meet all 3 of the definition does that make me and all my baking efforts more rustic than you? yes, it does!
But rustic or not, I bet that pie did not last...
