The one and only Elvis Presley performed a lot of songs with titles appropriate for the pancakes you're about to encounter, which were inspired by him and his well-documented love of fried banana and peanut butter sammiches.
"Sixteen Tons," for example, is what I would weigh if I ate these pancakes as often as I'd like.
Similarly, we have "Shake, Rattle, and Roll"--what my stomach, thighs, and booty would do if I ate these at every craving.
How about "Too Much Monkey Business"? I like bananas. Monkeys like bananas. Am I therefore a monkey? Some would argue that I am.
"Your Mama Don't Dance," actually completely unrelated, but what an awesome title (and true about my Mamosa, as far as I know...).
"Can't Help Falling in Love." They're irresistible, it's true.
Finally, "My Happiness," because there aren't many things better than warm banana pancakes topped with peanut butter and maple syrup.
These pancakes were also prompted by some waffles made by Marilyn of Simmer Till Done and they are seriously delicious. Ridiculously, unbelievably, you've-gotta-try-them-for-yourself delicious. I enjoy peanut butter on my pancakes as it is, so that wasn't much of a stretch. However, throwing bananas--caramelized in the pan, no less--into the mix makes these flat little buggers absolutely sensational.
(what a beautiful mess)
Presley's Perfect Pancakes
(kinda sorta based on these)
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon (obviously)
1 1/4 cups buttermilk (I let 1 1/4 cups regular milk + 1 tablespoon lemon juice sit on the counter for five minutes)
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon canola oil
2 bananas, sliced
Stir the dry ingredients together in a large bowl until well combined. In another bowl, combine the wet ingredients. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk them together until just combine, making sure not to over mix.
Bring a skillet to a medium-high heat. Lightly butter or oil the skillet and pour 1/4 cup of batter into the pan. Gently place 4 or 5 slices of bananas onto the batter immediately. Allow the edges of the pancake to brown lightly and then carefully flip it to cook the other side.
Slather the finished good with peanut butter and drench with maple syrup. Elvis wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm going to make that for lunch today. I may burn down the office building, but I'll be happy and full on peanut butter. Wait a second, maybe there's no downside to this after all...
Oh my. YUM. These look sinful. Gimme!
What are you talking about? There's whole grains in it. That's totally healthy!
Ditto Albany Jane...Totally healthy! There is whole grain and bananas after all. These sound delicious.
Oh wow, they look so good. It's 11.18pm here and all I want to do is whip up a batch of these! :o
Slightly OT, but I made his PB and banana sandwich but added bacon to it. Surprisingly it worked and I feel that The King would have approved of the addition lol
Oh my goodness woman those look amazing. A yummy mess indeed. That is classic comfort food, has to be.
Lol at shake rattle and roll!!1
between, the pancakes looks sinfully delicious!!!
That happens to be my daugther's favorite sandwich ever!! Shinny little thing that she is!
Elvis would've fallen in love with you on the spot. Oh, and I mean the good looking Elvis, not the later years one :)
Grace, one more thing we share...the King! These look utterly delicious, no monkey business about it. Next up, a Clambake in his honor?
I'm so down with the bananas caramelizing in the pan. But, is it me? Have I lived under a rock? I have never heard of putting peanut butter on pancackes!
You've thrown me for a loop this morning Grace. Nevertheless, they look sinfully good.
Most Tuesdays and Wednesdays I make breakfast for my husband as he goes off to work. I will be making these for him tomorrow. They look fantastic and I'm sure he'll love them!
You're evil. Posts like this should only be posted on Friday afternoons when I have the time to run to the store, buy the ingredients, and make these for breakfast Saturday morning.
Btw, I tried the baba ghanoush recipe you linked from Elise's site and it was yummy. The kid liked it too!
My thighs and Hips would be and pretty much already do shake rattle and roll!! You are evil on so many levels. This really looks great - Hubby is the breakfast maker in the house and when he gets home in a couple weeks I will very quitely place this recipe on the counter... Hint Hint
Cheers
Catthy
see me jiggle! i would make these if only i had some bananas...
one more for the sing-a-long...
we have no bananas, we have no bananas today!
A beautiful mess - I'd have to completely agree!!
I love peanut butter and banana sammiches, so this just takes them a step further ... glad I already had breakfast when I read this :)
OOOH. I like the way you think! I LOVE peanut butter and bananas together.
And I like Elvis.
I love it when you are crazy like this...and GEEZ Grace these look amazing I mean seriously...the WOW factor here! I love sinful and evil food.
Well it is well worth an hour at the gym to eat these delicious up Grace YUM YUM! :-D
Peanut butter and bananas combine to make magic, so by the transitive property, these pancakes are also magical. How that relates to me wanting to eat them all right now, I can't say, but there you have it! ;-)
Wow! I know a few little "monkeys" who'd go nuts over these! "Can't Help Falling in Love" is my favorite Elvis song. :)
Oh, I have to show my daughter this. Healthy too!
Caramelized banana pancakes with peanut butter and maple syrup...mmm...
When I show this to my husband he's gonna want this! He absolutely loves peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Bananas go so fast at our house he has to hide them so he can make a sandwich. He'll go "bananas" over this!
Oy, those pictures actually make me wish I liked bananas--something I have not felt in a long, long time.
These are too cool for school. I would love to try them out! Too bad my sweetie doesn't do PB - oh well, more for me! :)
From the way you describe them, maybe the Elvis song is 'Devil in Disguise'. It was certainly true for all those sammiches he ate.
My favourite Elvis is 'If I Can Dream', it's so overwrought I love it.
Now that's a hunk, a hunk, of yummy pancakes! Boy those look terrific! I've had peanut butter and banana sandwiches, but not pancakes! I bet my kids would like these ... including that big kid I'm married to!
It looks so good. I could go for some right now!
I'm going to put on my blue suede shoes and make these suckers! OMFG Grace. Seriously, these are like crack.
omg, that sounds so good! I am at my desk with a bagel w/pb and a bananana, but your breakfast looks about a thousand times better... That is very inspiring!
I am totally giggling at your post. You are cracking me up!
It's funny that you posted this. When my hubby and I got married, we received an Elvis themed cook book called "Are You Hungry Tonight?" and it has his favorite recipes in it including this sammy. YUm!
That is some seriously good breakfast food!!!
Grace this look absolutely yummy!!
Grace I make a post to the event BEAT THE HEAT! I made a Lemon Pie Ice Cream if you want to see at http://canelakitchen.blogspot.com xxxxxGloria
Sounds like the perfect pancake. Definitely bookmarking this to try.
oh my land. peanut butter on banana pancakes. yes m'am! yum! seems peanut butter is going around these days. i just posted about some yummy peanut butter chocolate chip pancakes myself. :-P
With all this whole wheat flour they are almost diet food.
Is it okay for me to tell you I hate pancakes? I mean, will you still love me? I'm sure if I liked pancakes that I'd love these, but you know, um, I don't. :-)
Holy-Moly! If Elvis could only come back and get a bite of those!
Yum! I love bananas and peanut butter and LOVE putting them together. Will have to try these as soon as I get myself some bananas.
Wow, these look sinful. And peanut butter? Genius! My hubby would love the PB!
Peanut butter and banana is one of my favorite combinations!
peanut butter and banana sandwiches are my favorite!! i love to drench mine with honey. hmm... i may be having breakfast for dinner tonight!
Seriously, the cutest post ever!
I have heard of elvis loving these! I really like how you incorporated the names of the songs into your post, btw :). I've missed reading your blog! Now that I'm done unpacking/moving, I'll have time to read your lovely entries again :D.
BTW, still plan on doing the no bake challenge! Still thinking of what to do :P!
I am totally putting on my blue suede shoes and making these! Gawd, Grace! YUM!
oh gosh, did you just mention pancake and banana in the same sentence?! that's it! i'm movin in. albeit uninvited lol ^_^
Looks like something you might eat if you were pregnant. Hmmm. Just kiddin'.
If you were at my house, my husband would break out into song for you. He once entered an Elvis impersonation contest (a little known fact).
It's never a good idea to look at posts like this when you are hungry! Oh well, at least my screen has been licked clean!!
I must not read posts like this when I am hungry.
At least my screen has been licked clean!
