roll me out the door

My ideal roll has a soft and fluffy interior and a crusty, crunchy, browned exterior. Believe it or not, Eb accomplishes this quite nicely.

It's pretty easy, too--I simply use my recipe for whole wheat sourdough bread, but instead of dividing it into loaf pans, I pinch off little balls and let them rise in a round cake pan.

Voila--the resulting rolls are just the way I like 'em.

They pair pretty darn well with some pepper jelly, too...

...as does turkey, ham, cheese & crackers, and a heck of a lot of other things.

It's good stuff. Magical, even. Maybe if I can wrest the recipe away from the fella (yes, fella) who made it, I'll share it with ya'll.

You can't get better than fresh baked rolls. The pepper jelly is a great idea - my husband LOVES it!

They look so fresh and fluffy. :-)

Those rolls look delicious! They seem so soft and beautiful. What's more someone just sent me a jar of pepper jelly for Christmas. Unfortunately I managed to kill the last sourdough starter I was given. It was embarrassing. I hardly thought such a thing was possible. Now your exploits with sourdough seem even more impressive!

It sounds like we like our rolls the same way! And yeah - I want some of that pepper jelly...

I love bread! I seem to be overly fond of all things bad for me. Or is it because I over indulge? Hmm, I pretty certain I wouldn't be happy with just one of your rolls. It's over indulge!

I tasted a habanero jelly for the first time a few months ago and really like it. It seems like it's quickly gaining popularity, and for good reason!

That is a great idea, to take a favorite bread recipe and make it into rolls. I love sourdough, so this is perfect for me.

Yes, share this recipe...so I can try to make 'em gluten free! They look gorgeous!

Holy moly those look good. Your photography is amazing. I just made dinner rolls this past weekend--they were divine, if I do say so myself ;) but I sure as heck didn't get any photos of them like that! My family's recipe is for softer and sweeter rolls--yours look like a good alternative. I'm copying the recipe down....

Pepper jelly on a roll? Sounds like a great snack. I might even add a schmear of cream cheese with it!

Roll me out the door right along with you! Is there any other way to exit a room when Eb is involved? :-)

Roll me to these rolls! I want a taste! They look divine!

Ok, I have to make a sourdough starter already! Whole wheat sourdough rolls sound fantastic.

wow, those rolls look so professionally puffy and good. Sorry to hear about your root canal, that's gotta suck anyways, but especially during the holidays.

The texture of the crumb does look light and fluffy. Never had red pepper jelly before. I get this feeling I'm missing out on something.

Mmm fluffy rolls.

Eb has proven to be entirely versatile. You've trained him so well. Excellent looking rolls.

Mmmmmmm, fresh bread... It might just be my favorite food. Too bad we can't live on bread alone, huh? :)

Ann said...

No idea why, but rolls are SO indulgent to me...probably bc I rarely have them. Except when I'm out to eat - then a buttery, warm, soft roll? COME to Mama! And that jelly/jam? Indeed.
