I just realized that since I was a kid I've been saying that Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue on the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. I was wrong, of course, for all these years. It was the Niña. I feel foolish.

god save the (chicken a la) queen

Are you familiar with chicken a la king? As far as I can tell, it's pretty much chicken pot pie without the pie crust, served over some other form of carbohydrates, be it a biscuit, rice, or plain ol' white bread.*

*At my restaurant, we have it as a brunch item served over a waffle and with bacon crumbled on top--it's amazing!

root beer me.

You may recall that I previously confessed to disliking Coca-Cola. Here's another beverage we can add to that list--root beer. I don't care for it; in fact, it offends my senses.

Oddly enough, just as I didn't mind those Coke cupcakes, I thought these root beer cupcakes were pretty delicious, too. Perhaps the butter, cream, and sugar have a little something to do with that.

goat cheese giveaway!

Are there foods with which you have a love-hate relationship? I can think of several, and near the top of my list is goat cheese.

Sometimes I'll eat it and it'll be perfectly tangy and flavorful, but other times, it tastes as though it's been coated with the stuff you scrape off a filthy fish tank.

You might be surprised to learn that Ray Stevens is one of my all-time favorite singer-songwriters. When I was but a wee lass, I listened to his greatest hits cassette tape (remember those?) until it no longer functioned.
