Are there foods with which you have a love-hate relationship? I can think of several, and near the top of my list is goat cheese.
Sometimes I'll eat it and it'll be perfectly tangy and flavorful, but other times, it tastes as though it's been coated with the stuff you scrape off a filthy fish tank.
Happily, Belle Chevre goat cheese falls firmly into the former category. Though I only tried the honey variety, I'm confident that the other options (everything from coffee- or cinnamon-flavored spreadable breakfast cheese to Tuscan marinated cheese) are just as tasty.
I think the trick to get me to like goat cheese is to mask its true flavor with something I find more enjoyable. Like honey. Or coffee. Or cinnamon. Those folks at Belle Chevre know what they're doing.
They have several partnerships with companies whose products are highly compatible with goat cheese, and one of those is Anna's. They make all kinds of cookie thins, including orange, almond, chocolate mint, and ginger, which I was fortunate enough to try. They were marvelous when paired with the honey Belle Chevre goat cheese (and a plop of pepper jelly!)--truly a match made in heaven!
Want to try some for yourself? You're in luck. I'm giving away two tubs of honey Belle Chevre goat cheese and two boxes of Anna's ginger thins. To win, all you have to do is leave a comment telling me a food with which you have a love-hate relationship. For extra entries, tweet about this giveaway and/or like Belle Chevre and Anna's on Facebook and leave me separate comments telling me you did so.
Good luck! This is a great prize promoting two terrific companies! I'll contact the winner in one week, on Friday, August 17th.
My love-hate relationship is with onions. It's mostly a hate-hate relationship, but every now and then I'll have an onion that's either perfectly caramelized or deep-fried, and love it all over again. I'd love to win! We love Belle Chevre at our house! (mary at maryhorowitz dot com)
ReplyDeleteI "like" Belle Chevre on Facebook. (mary at maryhorowitz dot com)
ReplyDeleteJust "liked" Anna's on FB. Would love to try some of their thins! (mary at maryhorowitz dot com)
ReplyDeleteA terrific combination!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Rosa
My love-hate relationship is with guacamole. To me, it is great or green goop. But when it is great, wow it is an amazing treat.
ReplyDeleteStrangely, I too have a love/hate relationship with goat cheese. Now topped with pepper jelly sounds really good-I'll have to try that next time. And these combos certainly sound promising, much better than the fish tank flavor Grace! :)
ReplyDeleteThe first one that popped up in my mind was vanilla wafers. Yuk. But...they're (yum) in banana pudding! :)
ReplyDeleteHehe so many people feel the same way about goat's cheese! :D
ReplyDeleteMy love/hate relationship is with potato soup. I only like it a certain way - any other way is gross to me.
ReplyDeleteI can relate. As a matter of fact, I used to hate ALL cheese but now, I look back at think that's just madness, lol.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend, my friend!!
I love the grassy notes of goat cheese. And the creamy texture makes it so perfect for spreading on crostini or tossing into pasta or crumbling atop salads.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there's something but I just can't think of anything. I love food and I LOVE goat cheese! Maybe mayo. It's so gross to me, but then there are defiled eggs, which would not exist without mayo and that's simply unacceptable.
ReplyDeleteDeviled eggs, not defiled. Ha! That dern autocorrect. I liked belle ever on fb too :)
ReplyDeleteI have a love/hate relationship with eggplant. Oh wait...that's a hate/hate. Let me think...blue cheese maybe.
ReplyDeleteHands down, cauliflower. Sometimes it taste fresh and crunchy and I love it & othertimes, I get it in my mouth and I the texture/shape makes it feel like I just popped a mini brain-stem into mouth. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteJust liked Belle Chevre on FB! :)
ReplyDeleteI love love love goat cheese with hot pepper jelly, I just never thought to plot it on an Anna's cracker!

ReplyDeleteI kid you not, mine is with goat cheese as well, but to me sometimes it tastes like food tainted with plastic/ziplock bag flavor.
ReplyDeleteMy love/hate relationship is with brussel sprouts.

Mine is Parmesan. I like the taste it adds to a dish, but the funky aftertaste it always leaves me with means I never eat it. It's weird.
ReplyDeleteThis goat cheese looks awesome, I'm going to have to look for it at my grocery!
I love goats cheese - you don't need to hide it with anything (but I like the idea of those wafers).
ReplyDeleteFortunately, I do like goat cheese. In fact, am thinking about making a goat cheese ice cream I saw the other day. :) One can only hope it doesn't end up tasting like something from a fish tank!
ReplyDeleteMy love hate is cilantro. I almost always use parsley instead, but there are some recipes which really need that cilantro flavor.
Great giveaway, Grace!
Goat cheese with pepper jam...that's heavenly, Grace.
ReplyDeleteGran combinación está irresistible,abrazos hugs,hugs.
ReplyDeleteBananas! I love a fresh banana - so good and filling for breakfast! But I absolutely hate anything banana-flavored or with bananas baked into it... banana cream pie, banana bread, banana Taffy, banana popcicles, etc.!
ReplyDeleteLove the combination! It looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteBeets and Brussel sprouts;) but I love goat cheese!
ReplyDeletePepper jelly and goat cheese?! Sounds, um, awesome. Sometimes I wish I had a goat so I could make my own cheese. (Did I say that out loud?)
ReplyDeleteMy love-hate relationship is with gin martinis. One, I'm in love. Two, I'm in hate. And on my way for a hangover.
I love/hate beets. Goat cheese...I just love.
ReplyDeleteI have a love/hate relationship with grapes. They have to be red and superfresh, or I am not interested!

Oh boy does that look like a tasty little snack! I have a love-hate relationship with milk (regular cow's milk). I hate it on its own, but love it in cereal, coffee, smoothies, etc.
ReplyDeleteFor me it's croissants. You know the ones in grocery stores aren't flaky. But the ones in a bakery aren't always promising either. It's hard to find that perfectly fresh croissant, with just enough butter to make you melt away but not coat your tongue with a layer of cheap butter.
ReplyDeleteEggs- I usually like them, but they weird me out in egg salad or deviled. There really isn't any rhyme or reason to it!
ReplyDeleteI have a love-hate relationship with chicken. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I can't bear to eat it!
ReplyDeleteFresh crab meat. I love to eat it but hate picking out the shells and you never seem to get them all!
ReplyDeleteI only have a love relationship for goat cheese. I used to hate it, but it has grown on me.
ReplyDeleteI have a love/hate relationship with liver. I love love LOVE the smell of it when it is being cooked but I HATE the taste.
I think I have a love/hate relationship with blue cheese...!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I clicked "like" on Belle Chevre's Facebook page (though I wish they had a "love" button..it's so good!)
ReplyDeleteI love goat cheese, in any way, shape or form. There is a local dairy near me that makes chocolate goat cheese - I bet you'd like that!
ReplyDeleteAs for a love-hate relationship.... I'm just gonna go with all sweets in general right now. I can't seem to curb the craving or find any willpower, and it's showing! I love so much how they taste - hate what they do to my waistline!
Oh I love goat cheese but then I am biased and have a love affair with most stinky cheeses:-)
ReplyDeletemy love/hate relationship is with cauliflower. sometimes i cannot stomach it, but other times i can eat a whole plateful!
ReplyDeleteCanteloupe - a good one is heavenly, but a mediocre one is watery, can't tell until I take a bite either!
ReplyDeleteactually i have a love/hate relationship with lots of food - especially fruit and veggies where freshness matters so much. also with mac and cheese - when it's great it's great and when it's not it's not. oh and don't forget peanut butter cookies ....

My love-hate relationship is with onions! I used to hate it but now actually look forward to it, until I eat something which reminds me why I used to hate it :p
ReplyDeleteI think it must be potatoes. I do love potatoes, cooked every way. But, my teenage son wants mashed potatoes every meal and I sometimes think if I see another mashed potato I will scream. Thanks for the goat cheese and pepper jelly idea. LOVE Belle Chevre!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that i have a love-hate relationship with ricotta cheese. I hate it in lasagna, but I love it in cannoli. I believe it's the texture in it's warm state and the combination of flavors that explains it. I love Belle Chevre's goat cheese though. I wish I could find more of it here in Pensacola. I also love ginger. Sounds like a great combination. :) By the way, I liked Belle Chevre and Anna's on Facebook. Also spread the love to my Facebook friends.

Ginger - Love it in savory foods, not in sweet foods.
ReplyDeleteI am ready to have some goat cheese and crackers. Send some foat!
ReplyDeleteI like the combination of creamy cheese and jam, but yet have to try with goat cheese :)
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a fun week Grace!
Love the look of that snack - I love cream cheese and red pepper jelly, so I imagine goat cheese must be heavenly.
ReplyDeleteI love mussels until I kiss the hippo... I've never tried goat cheese with honey, sounds wonderful and since I already love Anna's cookies the whole thing is making me drool!
ReplyDeleteI love/hate mushrooms. I still am not crazy about them but my husband just loves them. So I have learned to cook them for him.
