cherry, cherry, quite contrary

All right, I lied. There was a winner of the clash of the cobblers from a while back, but not because of flavor alone. No, I made one of the recipes again (thereby deeming it the winner*) solely because it was easier to throw together. Is that so wrong?

Melted magnificence.
Slothdom is a frame of mind that I know all too well, but hey--sloths have to eat too!

These look a bit like grapes, but they're cherries, I promise.
Tart cherries, soft cake, rich ice cream. The cherries are a pain to pit, but what a reward for that labor! Yeah, it goes down real nice.

*And what a coincidence that it happens to be the recipe from the Pioneer Woman herself, Ree Drummond, who's all over the blog world and America itself these days, on the book tour of my dreams. She seems like such a good egg.

Here are some fun questions I ask of you. Am I the only one who...

...would rather try to carry ten grocery bags in each hand than make two trips?
...keeps some people’s phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call?
...sometimes looks at the clock three consecutive times and still doesn’t know what time it is?
...has no idea how to fold a fitted sheet?
...wonders what would happen if Pinocchio said his nose was about to grow?
...feels a need for a sarcasm font?
...loves the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front?
...finds cursive completely useless?
...wonders how many times it’s appropriate to say “What?” before you just nod and smile because you still didn’t hear what was said?
...hates leaving my house feeling confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day?

  1. I'm with you on not making extra trips. My driveway is 30 steps down from the front door of the house, so I carry as much in one trip as humanly possible.

  2. Oh my god, too funny. I am definitely with you on the grocery bags (why I do find it so horrible to make 2 trips?), the clock, the fitted sheet, the font, and the "what?"--all this in common PLUS a desperate love of Friday Night Lights? (Are you in love with Tim Riggins, too?) Oh and the cobbler looks great. :)

  3. ....yes
    ....I have caller ID ;)
    ....What clock?
    ....Not a clue
    ....Expect the worst
....Let's invent one and really call it "sarcasm"
....Someone ALWAYS let's the jerk in
....Oh the hours I spent as a child practicing!
....Only once to my daughter; she thinks I'm deaf
....Happens more often to me in reverse: when I have been cleaning house, gardening or working out and run to the store, I see EVERYONE I have ever known.

Love tart cherry recipes. I will hint about Ree Drummond's book for my birthday.

  4. Love the Pioneer Woman, too. And I don't know how to fold a fitted sheet either. When/If you learn, please teach me.

  5. Too funny! I agree with all of it, except i actually do know how to fold a fitted sheet. You have to tuck the corners into each other as you fold. Then fold the corners over before folding the whole thing. Got it?

  6. m with you with the grocery part!! hehe

  7. Certainly pitting cherries is a chore worth doing! Delicious cobbler.

And, for the life of me, I have never been able to fold a fitted sheet.

  8. Love cobbler.

    Your questions:
    -me too
    -caller ID rocks
-I have clocks everywhere and always know the time
    -wing folding the fitted sheets
    -I'd hide
    -I'm not that clever
-I've had big trucks help with that, too
-Always write in cursive; prefer it to typing
-Ignore them and hope they'll go away.

  9. LOL, yes to the majority of those and thanks for the idea of adding in the unwanted callers' phone numbers.....GENIUS!

    Happy Friday!

  11. This post makes me happy. The cherry cobbler makes me want to cancel all my plans for next week, and your list at the end is a hilarious reminder that I'm not alone. Thanks for the smile today! :)

  15. Yes, yes, and yes to all your questions! And as far as the first one goes, do you also like to think that this maybe qualifies as a workout so you can skip the gym that day? (I hope I'm not the only one! ;) )

    Your cherry dessert looks fantastic.

  16. pitting cherries bites.
but well worth it, I guess, depends on the hunger level at the time.
my hubby HATES when he talks to me and I say 'what' 4 times before he grunts off. I get him everytime for that--do I love it? Hell yes.

  17. I love this Grace, really delicious!! gloria

  18. I may not agree with all of what you said, but the first is definitely me too:)))))

  19. LMAO!! yes and yes and yes to all except I do know how to fold a fitted sheet but I had to be taught by an old "mentor" lady not all that long ago. Prior to that is was rolled up and smashed to look like a fold was attempted.

  20. I follow Julia's steps for folding the fitted sheets... my mom was a pro! I've never had the patience to pit cherries. So glad to hear I'm not alone with asking "What?" and keeping phone numbers in the cell so I don't answer!

  21. Check "yes" for most of your questions for me :) Love the cobbler! My mom picks the cherries at a local farm, pits them & brings me two huge bags each year. I feel a little spoiled :)

  22. I am so with you on the grocery bags. I come in with rng mark indentations on my arms running all the way up, just so I dont have to make extra trips..go figure..

    ReplyDelete
  23. What? hehe, I say that alot! And I always load myself up with the grocery bags. Then I have trouble getting through the door.
I love the gooey cobbler; it's making me want to lick the screen!

  24. I'm with you on over half of those! Especially the cursive one; I haven't used it since third grade. Lovely cobbler - looks yummy!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Haha I agree wiht so mnay of those. I also found most of Maths during school rather useless! I'm yet to use 80% of it!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Mmm I don't think I've ever worked with fresh cherries before.

Yes, yes, yes! I completely agree with you on everything! I love the part about blocking the jerk driver. It seems like everyone's driving abilities are getting worse and worse.

  27. I am very partial to cherries and have always loved your header picture. You know, I have a lot of experience with the "what?" because I can't hear or can't hear clearly enough. It's not usually the volume. I can't understand accents at all an I try really hard. =/

  28. I think we all totally do those things!

  29. Great cobbler. I'm with you all the way, except I do know how to fold a fitted sheet, but I choose not to waste my time doing it.

  31. Why are there no cherries in my house?! I kind of ned this now. I can definately relate to some of the stuff you said!

    ReplyDelete
  32. You have to watch Martha Stewart fold a fitted sheet...it's perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  33. haha I loved your post! I agree completely with your list. I haven't used cursive since the 5th grade and ALWAYS run into people I don't want to see when I'm having a bad hair day and wearing some sloppy outfit ...aarrrrgg:)Great looking cobbler btw!

  34. Do you know that unpitted cherry actually taste better? So, I never pitted mine.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Pitting cherries is such a pain but so worth it. This looks amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yum!

I like your list too, I am with you on a few of them :)

  39. Oh Grace, I so love you! I can look at a clock a hundred times and still forget what time it's supposed to be. BUT, I just learnt how to fold a fitted sheet this year, can't say you're missing anything:) So happy that our cherry season has finally arrived, I can look at recipes like this and go YUP!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm with you there on carrying ten bags to avoid two trips! And yep, also guilty of keeping phone numbers of people I don't intend to talk to so I know it's them calling, just in case. Glad to know I'm not the only one teehee ^_^

  41. We do need a sarcasm font...I use italics but it just doesn't seem snarky enough.

And I have NO freaking clue how to fold a fitted sheet. It makes me batshit crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You are damm funny, you had me laughing out loud. I am so glad I am not the only one with quirks!

    ReplyDelete
  43. You are too funny! I make my hubs fold the sheets and make the bed. He is very particular about it so he can do it..ha!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have to admit it, I can fold a fitted sheet. My one claim to fame. Not really, but I'm with you on the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Pitting cherries, never done it, but can imagine the pain...although it seems that at the end the hard work pays off :-)
Your questions are funny and sure I can relay myself ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  46. ...has no idea how to fold a fitted sheet?

That is ONE of the banes of my existence. Sheesh. My mom always made one of us help her fold them and hers always looked perfect. I guess it takes two!

And WHERE did you find those cherries? They're so long gone from around here it's sad.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Or makes a huge list for the grocery store and leaves it on the counter then has to call hubby and realizes the phone is with the list. I think we are made from the same cloth Miss Grace!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Mmmmm. This looks so good, I wish I could have some for dessert tonight.

Your questions crack me up. I need to remember the phone number trick. I can't fold a fitted sheet to save my life - ugh!

  49. I had the pleasure of meeting Ree at BlogHer, she really is all that and I am sure her recipe is fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think I answered yes to almost all of those...especially the one about jerks cutting in a line of cars. That happens to me about 3 times a day (maybe even 3 times each way to work) and nothing makes me angrier than when I actually let them in and they can't be bothered to wave.

    ReplyDelete
  51. LOL I pretty much do/agree with all of those things! And there's nothing wrong with picking the easier recipe. We all have busy lives, after all!
