A Southern Grace: cocktail conundrum

cocktail conundrum

Yum

White Caribbean? Dudette? I'm trying really hard to come up with a clever name for my current cocktail of choice, but I'm not having much luck.

It probably already has a name, as it's not that incredibly inventive. All I've done is take your basic White Russian (which, for the innocents among you, contains vodka, coffee-flavored liqueur, and cream) and used coconut rum instead of vodka. My understanding is that the drink got its name because vodka is a Russian booze, so obviously, a change must be made. The Caribbean is where most rum is produced, but White Caribbean sounds grammatically incorrect and possibly offensive. The Dude loved his White Russians (I'm sorry, his Caucasians), and since this is a lighter, sweeter, more girly version, perhaps I could stretch and call it a Dudette? No, I'm not satisfied.

I'll gladly take your suggestions, but for now, I'll be calling it a White Sissy because this drink doesn't taste like alcohol at all. Nope, it tastes like dessert, and that's just fine with me. In fact, it's my preference.

White Russian Sissy
Makes 1 drink (but may be replicated two or three times more, depending on the kind of day the consumer has had)
Ingredients:
  • 1 part coconut rum (I prefer Malibu)
  • 1 part coffee-flavored liqueur (Kahlua for me, please)
  • 4 parts milk, cream, or half-and-half
  • Ice
  • Shredded sweetened coconut, toasted, for garnish
Directions:
Prepare your glass by dipping the rim into water and then into the toasted coconut, rolling it around to coat the lip nicely. Add ice, then pour the liquids into the glass, stir, and savor. Or chug. Your drinking habits, frequencies, and quantities aren't any of my business.

I would choose this over a White Russian any day!! Imagine if it was also made with coconut instead of regular milk...hmmm.

Who cares what you call it if it's in your mouth? Looks like drinking a delicious cloud.

I think the name is great.... but the important part is even better.... just happen to have the ingredients on hand...LOL!

I might call it a Malibu Cream Coffee, though that sounds like it could be warm. Yup naming is tough...

You can call this drink whatever you like, Grace. After all, you did create it:)

If this drink was made with a coconut liqueur, I'd be inclined to call it a daiquiri. Since it is made with Kahlua, and Kahlua Day is this Friday, it may just make a good White Maverick!

All I know for sure is, I need one, NOW!!! Thanks for sharing, Grace...

I love Kahlua and I love Malibu, but I've never had them together. Love this idea! I'm terrible at naming things, but White Sissy has a nice ring to it.

Haha, I used to try to come up with clever names for all of my drinks but it took too much time. Now, if it doesn't come to me quickly, I just call it what it is. This looks so yummy!! I do love myself a "White Russian" the drink.....so i can only imagine how delicious this would be with coconut rum. YUM YUM!! If you're interested come link up this drink with my Thursty Thursday linkup! hopelesslyeverafter.blogspot.com

You are making me think warm and Carribean, so White Sands? But then I think sand is gritty, so I am really no help. But it does sound delicious!

So perfect for those times when you want to drink your dessert. Almost like a boozy milk shake. What could ever be wrong with that? ;)
