Friends, I have been a fool. In all these five (!) years I've been blogging, I've come across every color and flavor of macaron imaginable, but until last week, I hadn't made them, eaten one, or even been close enough to touch one in person.
That's not (primarily) why I'm considering myself a fool. No, the foolishness comes from the fact that I thought the cookie part of the macaron was hard, like a meringue! Imagine my surprise when I bit into one of the divine macarons sent to me by Sucré and was met with no resistance, but a soft, moist cookie instead. What a dope. I've totally been missing out.
Let me talk about Sucré for just a minute. It's a confection studio out of New Orleans that specializes in everything from French macarons to candied pecans, and from caramel creations to artisan chocolates. They feature local ingredients as often as possible, which I always appreciate. Just look at these macaron flavors, they're so enticing and creative:
If you've never tried macarons, or if you've tried them and loved them, or if you've tried them and been disgusted, you should really give Sucré a chance. I enjoyed all the macarons in the box I was sent, but the ones that stood out as the most scrumptious to me were the salted caramel and pecan.
I guess I have no choice now but to attempt to make my own. It's the cool thing to do these days, right? Or has a new fad already come along? Sigh. It's so hard to keep up. :) If you'd like a chance to win a box of macarons like the one I received, do one or all of the following and tell me about each action in a separate comment:

I have never had a macaroon... how sad is that?
ReplyDeleteThey all look amazing to me but I am particularly drawn to the salted caramel. MMMMm goood!
Actually, sucré (with an accent at the end) means sweet or sweetened. Sucre (no accent) means sugar. Small, but distinct, difference :)
ReplyDelete@Stephanie: i was afraid i'd make a blunder like that! thank you for correcting me--i fixed it, so now you're the only one who knows i'm a dummy. :)

Just looking at all those colours make me feel that it is going to be too sweet.
ReplyDeleteBy coincidence, the best macaron I ever had in my life was also salted caramel. (In Paris, sigh.)
