the british are coming!

I'm not ashamed to admit that there's a lot I love about the United Kingdom. So many of my favorite shows are set there (in one era or another)(and for the record, Sherlock tops my list right now, without question or competition), and I enjoy the accents and overall demeanor of its people.

That being said, I'm happy to promote a site from across the pond that's full of recipes, both British and otherwise. This carrot cake comes from a recipe found on Baking Mad, and it's one of the best I've ever eaten. Sure, I had to do some converting (when will we all be on the same measurement system already!?!), but it was worth it. I love special add-ins when it comes to carrot cake, and pecans, coconut, and raisins are some of the best.

I ♥ carrot cake.

Go ahead and peruse Baking Mad, and I defy you to come away without seeing something--whether it be unique muffins or interesting cakes--that you'd like to make!

In other news, my brother has decided to raise some chickens. He has layers, which will hopefully keep him well supplied with eggs, and boilers, which will meet a fate of which we will not speak quite yet.

I asked him to take pictures keeping me abreast of their growth and progress in life, so hopefully you'll see these cute little buggers again soon!

Will you please just LOOK at that itty bitty wing?!

I'm too attached to them already.

I have a good friend/co-worker who raises chickens. I can't buy store bought eggs after enjoying fresh eggs for so long. I hear that chickens can be quite entertaining too.

The british cake rocks! Thanks for sharing.

Aren't they adorable? I think perhaps it would have been better NOT to have seen those photos. :( I don't want to know about their fate.
Love this cake and won't the Olympics be fun to watch?? Can't wait.
(and yes, I smiled when I read your comment about rhubarb. I couldn't resist just one more recipe. Now I'll save the rest for next spring.)

My heart skipped a beat when I scrolled past that carrot cake, you see I have a small problem resisting moist little snacking cakes with sweet gobs of frosting rakishly drooping off to one side like that...
You are so lucky to have access to fresh eggs, the few times I've had them I couldn't believe the difference.

Sherlock is pretty good, but I'm really enjoying the new season of Inspector Lewis, too. Did you catch Inside Men on BBC? Heck, I could watch BBC all day just for the accents.

As for that carrot cake, well, that's my favorite cake of all time, no doubt.

That's a superb-looking carrot cake! It's funny that you used a British recipe for something that to me is totally American!

That is a very pretty carrot cake. Nicely decorated.

You are right, Sherlock was a good series. I only came across it when series 2 was on tv.

A perfect sweet treat to watch the upcoming Olympics in London! I think I'll need at least two pieces with all the events I plan to watch.
