A Southern Grace: truffle-upagus

truffle-upagus

Yum

Yes, I watched Sesame Street as a child, and yes, I was fond of Snuffleupagus.

But no, I never knew his first name was Aloysius.

Aloysius Snuffleupagus. Come on--awesome, right? That's quite possibly the best name ever, and that's all there is to it. Future son of mine, be prepared.

Okay, this post isn't really about Snuffleupagus. It's about truffles. Get it? Truffle-upagus? Boy-o, I'm easily amused on a Monday morning.

Generally, I save truffle-making for occasions when I have deep reserves of patience and lots of time on my hands. I consider it a trying process. Lately, though, I've been inspired and motivated by my Barney Butter, and I was easily able to summon up the courage to attempt their truffle recipe.

I'm here to tell you, folks--these truffles are unlike any I've ever had, in a good way. They're replete with the almond butter flavor, set off nicely by the subtle cocoa powder, vanilla, and honey. Depending on what you roll them in [I tried powdered sugar, more cocoa powder, cloves, and (surprise) cinnamon], the little balls of heaven are easily able to take on other flavors.

I didn't even have that much trouble with them, thanks in part to numerous and lengthy rest stops in the refrigerator. Give 'em a try, especially if you like that good ol' chocolate-nut butter combination. I recommend giving them a tumble in cinnamon and a quick visit to the freezer.

I love the idea of putting barney butter into truffles! You can never go wrong with chocolate and almonds. I often add cinnamon to my chocolate desserts, I just love the flavor with chocolate.

Aloysius is actually an old family name for me. But I think it's hilarious that Snuffleupagus had it as his first name!
Your truffles look really yummy!

I didn't know he had a first name, either! Wonder if he ever had any trouble finding novelty products like pencils or key chains with his name on them? No matter, though, if he had these gorgeous treats to keep him company! :-)

Awww, loved Sesame Street as a kid! Truffles are one of the best treats out there and it has been so long since I made them. Great post, Grace!

Sesame Street was the best. I remember it fondly. And to be honest, when I have really really bad days I will watch it--so comforting.
Never made a truffle with almond butter. But I would love to try it. I mean anything rolled in chocolate is good for heavens sake.

When I got mad at my parents when I was little, I used to tell them I was going to run away and life on Sesame Street!

hmmm aloysius sounds like delicious... what a fitting name! I love nut butters and chocolate, in fact it's a mandatory combination for complete enjoyment as far as I'm concerned.

Jeff said...

I want that name!

Leslie if I threatened my parents with running away they just packed my bags for me. Threats were worthless in my family.

I will have to give the almond butter a shot because that sounds good and I love almond butter.

I'll give 'em a try as I still have about half a jar left.

Sorry, I'm such a loser about properly thanking you for the Barney Butter. I will, promise & soon!

I have never made my own truffles at home, but a good family friend makes them for us around the holidays every year. I love them so much and I really should try my hand at them. Thanks for the tips on how to be successful!

Your truffles look fantastic, really. And the little pearl of knowledge as to Snuffleupagus' first name is fantastic (however, can I encourage you to reconsider naming your firstborn son after the furry mammal?).

Aloysius, really? Wow, so many years of Sesame Street without knowing that one! These truffles look very tasty, you've got substantially more patience than I though!

Your son's name would humble attendance rosters everywhere. Love the truffles, they look delicious!

These are fantastic! I love homemade truffles and these are extra-good with the added almond butter.

I was always a huge fan of Snuffy--when I was a kid he was something of Big Bird's imaginary friend. (The adults didn't ever see him, that is, and thought he was imaginary.)

As to his first name, Aloysuis--I never knew that!

Yes, but can you say it 3 times fast and rub your stomach at the same time? Ha. I didn't think so. I've never made truffles. Shhhh...don't tell anyone. But dang, I just may try now. When my hips widen, I'll blame it on you.
